We are racing in memory of our friend René Zamudio who died from depression by suicide aged 22.

“We managed to continue with the support from friends and family, one day at a time.”
84 men take their own life each week.
Our beloved Rene was one of those young men who suffered from depression and tragically died after a mental health relapse back in January 2017.
Rene was the most loving son, brother, friend and young man. He was incredibly intelligent, caring and ambitious. An alumni of St Anthony's Prep School in Hampstead North London, before graduating at City of London School for Boys, where he excelled both academically and at sport (particularly water polo), René went on to complete a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the prestigious Bristol University.
Never one to shy away from hard work and always keen for a challenge, René became interested in Applied Intelligence, securing an internship at British Aero Space (BAE). He then decided to switch to studying a Masters in Computer Science at the world famous Imperial College London.
Rene was very keen to continue rowing and was part of the Imperial College rowing team in Putney. His dream was to qualify for Henley. The night before Rene’s tragic death, at the age of 22, he attended the annual rowing ball at Imperial with his coach and rowing friends.
René started to suffer from depression during his second year at university which had a devastating impact on his relationships, friendships, sport and studies. He never showed any signs of mental health issues before going to university.
René was a private individual and did not share his pain and suffering with his friends. Most were unaware of René’s suffering and were devastated by his tragic death.
We believe that through funding the incredible work done by charitable organisations like Child Bereavement UK and PAPYRUS, we can campaign for more research into preventative suicide methods and support for young people suffering. Young people like our Rene.
Although we cannot bring our Rene back, we know that he is always with us and will forever cherish his incredible smile. As we try to rebuild our own lives, step by step each day, what keeps us going is raising awareness about mental health and suicide, so that no one has to go through it alone.
René had a huge effect on a lot of people. The love that so many people felt for René will live on in our memories.
